Embracing Individuality: A New Approach to Learning
Embrace Academy fosters a "community of kindness," offering every student the chance to learn and thrive. We support each child's unique needs and partner with families in their growth. By empowering students to take charge of their learning, we enhance their confidence and decision-making, paving the way for future success.
Head of School | Laura Bruni
Laura Bruni understands what it's like to overcome learning challenges. Her difficulties with reading as a child inspired her path into education. Although she excelled in math, reading presented a challenge for her, and this experience significantly impacted her teaching philosophy.
Upon entering the classroom, Laura was committed to ensuring that every student felt assured in their learning regardless of their abilities. For nearly three decades, she's made it her mission to turn that vision into a reality.
Starting her teaching career in 1993 as a general education teacher, Laura soon became an inclusion teacher. It allowed her to work with neurotypical students and those from special education classes. Watching these students learn and grow opened her eyes to the importance of integrating them into the same learning environment.
Laura's belief is simple yet powerful: all children can thrive when given the proper support. This insight led her to pursue special education certification. Since then, she's passionately advocated for and taught children with special needs.
What sets Laura apart is her profound empathy and her ability to connect with every child she teaches. Laura believes in meeting students where they are and guiding them toward growth. That's as important for a struggling student as it is for a gifted student who needs new challenges.
Her superpower? Laura can reach any child and help them learn in a way that excites and engages them. She's proud of this connection, and parents often share how thrilled their children are to be in her classroom.
The most rewarding part of Laura's job is seeing that "lightbulb moment"—when a child's eyes light up, and everything clicks. Watching students connect their lessons and grow fills her with joy, whether it's a simple word or a complex concept. These moments reinforce her belief that every child can succeed in the right environment.
Looking forward, Laura envisions expanding this inclusive, integrated educational model beyond her classroom. She dreams of creating a broader impact, showing society that neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals can coexist and flourish together. Laura wants the world to see that these children can thrive and learn valuable lessons from one another.
Her vision for the future is inspiring, and her commitment to inclusive education is unwavering.
