It is a traditional, rigorous independent school, and it leans into that. Some kids absolutely thrive on that kind of academic intensity. Others might find it a lot, which is worth being honest with yourself about before you enroll.
Adelson fills a spot nobody else in the valley really does. It is the area's pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade Jewish community school, based in Summerlin, and it runs a dual curriculum that pairs strong academics with Jewish studies, culture, and tradition. The classes are small, with a ratio in the neighborhood of 6 to 1, and the campus and facilities receive a lot of praise from the families who attend.
What you are really getting at, Adelson, is community. Because it is one campus from early years through high school, kids grow up in the same tight-knit group, and that continuity means a lot to many families. If you want academic rigor wrapped in a culturally rich, values-driven environment, this one belongs on your shortlist.
Dawson is the boutique option for the younger years. It covers pre-kindergarten through eighth grade on a large campus at 10845 West Desert Inn Road, with about 489 students and a ratio of close to 8 to 1. The whole approach centers on STEAM, which folds the arts into the usual science, tech, engineering, and math mix, and on project-based, hands-on learning.
The vibe there is curiosity over cramming. Dawson is less interested in churning out test takers and more interested in raising kids who actually want to figure things out. Plenty of families use it for the elementary and middle school stretch and then move on to a larger high school. If you have a young kid who learns best by doing, and you like the idea of a roomy campus where exploration is the point, Dawson is worth a look.
Faith Lutheran is the biggest private school in the state, and it has been part of the Summerlin landscape for a long time. Its connected campuses cover the elementary, middle, and high school years, with the middle and high school sitting on a large campus at 2015 South Hualapai Way. The draw here is faith-based education backed by real academic resources. You get AP courses, fine arts, a long list of sports, and specialty academies in areas like business and media.
The size is the selling point and the trade-off all at once. A big campus means programs and facilities that smaller schools simply cannot offer, but it also means your child is one of a couple of thousand students rather than one of a couple of dozen. For families who want a Christian environment with the breadth of a large school, the trade-off is more than worth it, and Faith Lutheran remains one of the most popular choices in the valley for good reason.
