What’s Happening in Art at Embrace Academy?

This semester, art class at Embrace Academy has been full of color, creativity, and imagination. Students have been learning how artists use shapes, patterns, and color to express ideas and emotions. Each project gave them a chance to explore something new while building confidence in their artistic voice.

Studying Sonia Delaunay and Orphism

Students began by studying the artist Sonia Delaunay and her role in the Orphism movement. They looked closely at her use of color and circular shapes to create movement and rhythm in her work. Inspired by what they learned, students painted their own layered circle art pieces using bright, bold colors. Through this process, they began to see how color and balance can change the feeling of a painting and how geometry can create harmony.

Exploring Squeegee Art

Next, students were introduced to a new and exciting painting technique called Squeegee Art. Using squeegees to move paint across the surface, they experimented with blending colors and creating patterns that showed motion and texture. They discussed how repetition and direction can help guide the viewer’s eye.

This project helped students:

  • Experiment with color in a hands-on way
  • Understand how movement adds energy to a piece
  • Practice problem-solving as they worked with a new tool

Moon Paintings with a Creative Twist

To close the semester, students combined art, imagination, and science by painting moons. They used layered paint to create texture and dimension, then added a playful touch to their work with the idea that “the moon is made of cheese.” The final pieces showed humor and creativity while still applying what they learned about shading, texture, and layering. It was a fun and memorable way to wrap up the unit.
